The country's 13 major ports handled approximately 46
million tonnes of sea freight during November, showing
around 5.5 per cent lower volume than in October, the
month that had seen workload go up by a sharp 9.7 per cent
over September. Cumulatively, the growth rate in freight
dropped to 0.83 per cent during April-November, reversing
the improvement to 1.7 per cent during April-October; from
1.23 per cent in H1. The deterioration in April-November,
(relative to April-October) was due to lower pace at eight
ports. Thus, among the larger ports, Kandla saw the pace go
down from 3.05 per cent during April-October to 1.66 per
cent during April-November, Mumbai Port Trust from 2.87
per cent to 1.04 per cent and Mormugao from 10.8 per cent
to 5.5 per cent between these periods. Cumulative growth,
however, turned to a positive 0.35 per cent at Haldia, from
1.52 per cent annual decline till October. The growth rate at
JNPT also improved from 6.61 per cent to 7.75 per cent
during April-November. Among the types of traffic, the
growth rates dropped in most of the cargoes; barring
container freight that improved to 13.18 per cent, from
12.95 per cent till October and 11.42 per cent during H1. |
