GMR Group
Transport - Highways, Rs6,014 crore

GMR Group has emerged as the successful bidder for India's first brownfield mega highway project six laning of the four-lane 555-km long Kishangarh- Udaipur-Ahmedabad highwayrunning through Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The project, which GMR won under international competitive bidding, will be implemented through PPP on DBFOT basis in BOTToll mode of delivery.

This highway section falls under NHDP-Phase V, is a part of the Delhi-Mumbai Corridor (GQ) and goes through the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor which has high-growth potential for commercial and tourist traffic.

GMR has received the Letter of Award and the concession agreement would be signed soon. This is the group's first highway project in western India.

For GMR, the Kishangarh- Udaipur-Ahmedabad highway project is the first four to six laning project; it marks the company's entry into highest industrial growth area; and is now the largest national highway developer in India.

Punj Lloyd Group
Power - BoP, Rs1,195 crore

Punj Lloyd Group, the leading EPC conglomerate, has won a balanceof- plant order for thermal power project from Haldia Energy Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of CESC Ltd, Kolkata.

The project, worth Rs1,195 crore ($244 million), will boost the power supply in Kolkata and its suburbs, and is scheduled for commissioning by 2014. Based in Haldia, the scope of work for the 2x300 mw capacity power plant entails BOP supply and services and BTG erection. It also includes detailed engineering of BOP, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation packages.

With this contract, the order backlog for Punj Lloyd Group on a consolidated basis has gone up to Rs25,133 crore reflecting the total value of unexecuted orders as on June 30, 2011, and new orders received after that day.

As a leading EPC contractor in power, Punj Lloyd handles the engineering, boiler-turbinegenerator, balance-of-power plant packages, and complete civil construction.

L&T Group
Oil & Gas - Hydrocarbons, Rs700 crore

L&T Hydrocarbon has achieved a major breakthrough in the Gulf Cooperation Council region by securing a contract worth around Rs700 crore ($150 million) from Petroleum Development Oman LLC. The order is for setting up a greenfield project for treating an average of 3 mmscmd of gas.

The concept for the Lekhwair Gas Field development project is a single train gas plant in the Lekhwair gas plant for exporting treated gas (CO2 removed and dehydrated gas) to the government gas plant in Yibal and unsterilised condensate and water to the existing Lekhwair production station. Lekhwair is located approximately 110 km from the Yibal government gas plant and its associated network.

The project includes main gas treatment plant consisting of gas desulfurisation and gas dehydration units with required utilities and supporting facilities as well as flow lines well pad piping, remote manifold station, and liquid and gas export pipelines.

The contract was bagged by L&T Hydrocarbon's mid and downstream business segment against stiff competition from reputed international engineering-procurement- construction bidders.

The scope of the contract includes project management, residual basic design, planning and monitoring, residual process engineering, detailed engineering, procurement, supply, fabrication, manufacturing, inspection, transportation, storage, construction, installation, testing, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and performance guarantee run test.

Foster Wheeler AG
Power - CFB steam generators

Global Power Group, a subsidiary of Foster Wheeler AG, has been awarded a contract by Essar Projects Ltd, a UAE company, for design and supply of four circulating fluidised-bed steam generators for Essar Power Salaya Ltd for its power project in India.

Foster Wheeler has received a full notice to proceed on this contract. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed and the contract value was included in the company's second-quarter 2011 bookings.

Foster Wheeler will design and supply four 150-mw (gross megawatt electric) CFB steam generators and provide site advisory and commissioning services for the project. The CFB steam generators will be designed to burn a blend of pet coke and coal while meeting applicable environmental regulatory requirements.

Unity Infraprojects Ltd
Constrcution - Civil, Rs403 crore

Unity Infraprojects Ltd, a major civil contracting firm, has bagged diverse orders worth Rs403 crore.

Entering Jharkhand, the company bagged an order from Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd, Kolkata. The project consists of construction of roadbed, major and minor bridges, tunnel, track linking (excluding supply of rails, thick web switches and line PSC sleepers) and OHE and general electrical works in connection with construction of 15.9-km long third line between Goelkera and Posoita in Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway. The project, valued at Rs135.28 crore, is scheduled to be completed in 24 months. The company was awarded a similar project by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd in 2006.

The second project is from Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd, Gujarat, for constructing distributaries and minor works of Command Area under Botad Branch Canal ch. 22.605 to 59.152 km (LD-5 to LD- 13 & LM-1 to LM-3). Valued at Rs83.81 crore, the project is to be completed within a period of 18 months.

The next order is for development of commercial space at Viaman Nagar, Pune, at a cost of Rs47.94 crore. The development of 'Marvel Edge' awarded by Marvel Edge Realtors Pvt. Ltd is to be completed within a period of 11 months.

The last project is for construction of buildings for various schools including site development and bulk services at Central University of Karnataka at Gulbarga. It is the third civil construction contract for the company in Karnataka. Valued at Rs135.77 crore, the project is awarded by RITES Ltd. The timeline for completion is 24 months.

Tecpro Systems Ltd
Power-CHP, Rs405 crore

Tecpro Systems Ltd, a leading EPC company based in Chennai, has received orders worth Rs405 crore from NTPC Ltd for an extended coal handling plant package for Pakri Barwadih coal mining block located in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand.

The company, which has expertise in three core functional areasdesign and engineering, manufacturing, and execution- will undertake design, engineering, manufacturing, shop fabrication, assembly, testing and commissioning etc.

Commenting on the development, Amul Gabrani, Vice-Chairman & Managing Director, Tecpro Systems Ltd, said, "We are extremely delighted to announce this order from NTPC. This order further augments our leadership position in the coal handling space. We are happy with the way things are shaping up for us this year with constant accretions to our robust order book position. We are confident that we will be able to maintain this momentum going forward as we continue to aggressively seek opportunities to grow all our business segments."

Areva T&D India
Power- Substation

Areva T&D India's transmission business, now a part of Alstom Grid, has been awarded a contract by BHEL for a gas-insulated substation package. The contract, worth approximately Rs58 crore, covers manufacturing, engineering and installation of 11 bays of 420kV GIS for BHEL's hydro project at Rampur in Himachal Pradesh.

The state-of-the-art gas-insulated substations will incorporate highly reliable spring operating mechanisms and be delivered from the company's world class ultra high voltage switchgear factory at Paddapai in Chennai.

In June 2010, the global activities of Areva T&D were acquired by a consortium of Alstom and Schneider Electric. Following this acquisition, the high voltage transmission and the power electronics activities are to be carried on under the control of Alstom and the medium voltage activities under control of Schneider Electric.

Pennar Industries Ltd
Pre-Engineered Buildings

Pennar Industries Ltd, a subsidiary of Pennar Industries Ltd of Hyderabad involved in design and manufacture of pre-engineered steel buildings, has received an order from Toyotsu Rare Earth Pvt. Ltd for installation of two buildings spanning an area of 10,000 sq. metres at its rare earth metal processing plant in Visakhapatnam.

The raw material extraction will take place in Orissa and the processing plant will be based out of Visakhapatnam. The processed metals will be used to cater to Toyota's hybrid car battery and other electronic devices.

The project involves the installation of two buildings of 10,000 sq. metres. The buildings are to be equipped with PEBS Pennar's unique Double Lok 360 degree, 100 per cent leak-proof roofing, based on technology sourced from NCI Building Systems, USA. The project duration is six months and is for a value of Rs8.5 crore. Last week, Pennar Engineered Building Systems received a Rs6.10- crore order from ITC Ltd for construction of three buildings for manufacturing units coming up over a 8,800 sq. metre area at Pohkara in Nepal. The project is being implemented through its Indo-Nepal venture, Surya Nepal Pvt. Ltd, the largest private sector company in Nepal and a subsidiary of ITC Ltd of India and British American Tobacco (Investment) Ltd, UK.

SEFORGE Ltd
Power- Wind, Rs200 crore

SEFORGE Ltd, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Suzlon Energy Ltd engaged in manufacturing large-size castings and large diameter forged and machined rings, has announced major orders worth over Rs200 crore from the wind sector.

"We are pleased to announce two major third-party orders-the first is of Rs120 crore from one of the three independent wind turbine tower manufacturers for tower flanges, and the second of Rs80 crore from one of the world's top five wind energy players for castings," Kamlesh Badhani, CEO, SEFORGE Ltd, said.

"We are witnessing strong growth momentum not only in wind, but also in non-wind sectors like oil and gas, and particularly in markets such as North America. Looking ahead, we expect the oil and gas sector to contribute between 15 and 20 per cent of our forging division's revenues in FY2012-13. With our cutting edge technology, comprehensive product portfolio and highly competitive offerings, we are well-positioned to take advantage of the opportunities in the evolving marketplace," he added.

SEFORGE operates two business divisions-forging and foundry. Its state-of-the-art forging facility is located in Vadodara, Gujarat, while its foundry plant is based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

ICSA (India) Ltd
Power- SCADA, Rs140 crore

ICSA (India) Ltd along with its lead consortium partner, Dongfang Electronics Company Ltd of China, has received a Letter of Award from Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd for establishing SCADA/DMS projects in seven cities in the state under RAPDRPscheme. The contract is valued at nearly Rs140 crore.

This is the first ever LoA awarded in India under the government's ambitious SCADAimplementation programme (under R-APDRP) for setting up SCADA/DMS projects that aim at reducing AT&C losses. Further, the contract assumes significance as it is the first SCADA/DMS Letter of Award bagged under the Dongfang- ICSAconsortium which has been empanelled as an SCADA/DMS Implementation Agency by Power Finance Corporation.

G. Bala Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director, ICSA India Ltd, said: "We are happy to bag this first SCADA implementation under RAPDRPin India along with our lead consortium partner Dongfang. ICSA's efforts to be a major player in technology solutions for power sector have started bearing fruits and we will continue to focus on technology adoption in power sector for reducing AT&C losses through our product offerings."

Va Tech Wabag
Waste water treatment

VA Tech Wabag, the Chennai based global player in water and wastewater management, announced that it has won various orders in Switzerland. The orders are:
  • Abwasser Uri, the organisation responsible for wastewater treatment in the canton, placed an order for the expansion of the plant on a package basis.
  • Lake Neuchatel, Cudrefin, placed a wastewater treatment order for the latest membrane technology and the treatment process includes ultra filtration, activated carbon filtration and disinfection.
  • Mannedorf wastewater treatment plant to move bed filtration system using Wabag Luopur and dual layer filtration technologies.
  • Design and supply of two deacidification filters in Raron Swiss and supply of filtration plant for Swiss Rheintal.
The concept from Wabag was selected as the best and most costefficient solution. The plant is to be extended using advanced Wabag fine sieving, Fluopur and Wabag filtration, three of the company's innovative technologies.

For Abwasser Uri, VATech- Wabag will supply a turnkey state-of-theart plant. Work will commence in spring 2012 and will be ready for operations at the end of 2013.

Tantia Construction Ltd
Transport-Roads & Bridges, Rs167 crore

Tantia Constructions Ltd of Kolkata has been awarded four road projects, mainly construction of high-level bridges, worth nearly Rs167 crore. The works are as follows:
  • Construction of high-level bridge over Satlej river in Chandigarh from the Punjab government. The work includes approaches, guide bunds and toll plaza crossing Ludhiana- Rahan Road near Mattewara village in Ludhiana district (Rs50.70 crore).
  • Construction of high-level bridge across river at Dhanoya Pattan including toll plaza at km 5.65 in Gurdaspur district (Rs48 crore).
Both these projects are awarded by the Punjab government and will be implemented by the joint venture company Tantia-SEC.

On the other hand, the Mizoram government has placed an order worth Rs14.18 crore for rehabilitation and resurfacing of road from West Phaileng to Marpara Road (0.00-27.00 kmp) in Mizoram, under package-I of RIDF.

In an overseas order, the Government of Bangladesh has awarded a contract for construction of 686.75-metre PC girder bridge on Arialkha river on Kalkini- Upazila-Sadar-Kasherhat GC Road at ch 12,000 metres. The project will be implemented by the JV company, Tantia- OTBL, at an estimated cost of Rs54 crore.
